Response to website info...

Hi Andy,
I agree with keeping the website something that is simple, which means it can be updated quickly too.
I spoke to Mark Beer from I.T yesterday about setting up a ucreative e-mail account, he said that shouldn't be a problem as long as the name is something easily distinguished so it can't be something like photography@ucreative.....etc

it would be good if we had a theme as a title, or perhaps we could simply have;

endofyear@ucreative.ac.uk   (let me know what you think?)

also if we set a web hosting account with streamline.net (who i use for my own site) then we can do a 3 months free trial (there is a domain name registration fee of a around £11)

Website promotion

Hi all, it's Andy...

The idea of a promotional website for the exhibition was raised today (I'm sure that's not the first time, but it was the first time I was there). I think a simple site, maybe even a one-page "flyer" type design would be very appropriate. It may be good to add some examples of students work to keep it interesting too, so if you can think of some work you would like displayed please send it across (either in college or if it's small an email). Keep in mind that only stills, and probably only one per student could be squeezed into the web "window-space".

Caroline, please either reply here or send me an email with your feelings on the website, or any ideas you have.

We also need to consider a name for the site, mainly so we can get a domain name sorted early. Any thoughts on that?

More Cinema News

Riight...
We have got the Cinema for the 6th of march. Thats Thursday evening.
All that my manager needs is a cheque made payable to Odeon Ltd for £100. Easy.
Flims. If we wanted to show a film such as Pulp Fiction we couldn't just use a DVD cos its Illegal! It would cost us around an extra £100 to get the proper cinema version sent to the cinema. That would make it legit but lose us money! so personally i think not!
Actual Film Options. This is to be confirmed monday, which is when i will get the showing times of the films too so we can pick what showing we want after deciding on a film. But i think it will be....
Be Kind, Rewind.
Cloverfield.
National Treasure.
Semi-pro.
At the moment thats what i reckon our choices will be as there are no major releases over the next couple of weeks.
Personally i think we should go with Be Kind, Rewind. its a 12A so open to families, ive seen it, tis well funny. and i think its the most appealing to student types.
This is all open for discussion Monday though when we will decide!
Then tuesday we will begin advertising!! ooh how exciting :)
ps fingers crossed it doesn't go tits up! xxxx

Collaboration

I again spoke with some Video guys yesterday to let them know about the blog, I had also spoken with Conor to try and clarify what the outcome to this end of year exhibition was about and if it was true that the video guys would not have their work citiqued or marked at the exhibition!
He said that he thinks it's a good idea if we can collaborate and submit work as individuals also, He will speak to Adam and find out what the full story is.

Hopefully before the meeting on the 28th in the conference room in the library 12.30pm.

Laura

I saw Laura yesterday and she said that we may be able to organize a whole cinema screen for ourselves for £100, then if we fill it we could make around £500/£600 profit! If we are going to do it we should consider the Chatham branch first and then take it over to the Maidstone branch. We will be able to discuss this in more detail later.

It all sounds positive....

Talk with Adam

ok, fresh from my talk. and here's the main points;

- He's planning to give us a proper briefing in regards to what we actually have to do, and what we'll be assessed on. i mentioned that we're meeting in the afternoon of the 28th in the library. so he may give us the briefing in the morning of the 28th!

- Video students. we are allowed to collaborate with them, and he's all for that. but this is OUR project, so we're the only people getting marked. i guess we'd have to figure out the logistics of having all of us plus however many video students on board.

-in regards to the money needed for past exhibitions and people not turning up to meetings but still wanting exhibition space, we can discuss that when we have the breifing.

see you all on monday!
